STAC Teacher spotlight series: Up next, Kelly Elmore!

Rian Cushenan is back with another insightful interview. This time we meet Kelly Elmore, a lifelong teacher and learner who offers an amazing variety of different classes including literature, writing, history, science, and rhetoric.

After the interview, I asked Kelly about her upcoming classes for the 2020-2021 school year. Here’s what she wrote: “I'm excited about some new things this fall: my middle school literature class called "Demigod Club" is going to read Rick Riordan books. I think his Rick Riordan presents series is so cool. He uses his fame to give less known writers a chance to publish novels about the myths and folklore of their own cultures. I'm looking forward to exploring those (along with other Riordan books).

I'm also really looking forward to teaching Mystery Science in an upper elementary/middle school age range. There are some amazing mysteries that my elementary class last year didn't get to explore because they weren't accessible to some of the younger students. This year an older group will get to dig into those cool new things.

Honestly, I could write a paragraph about the cool things about each class, so I'll stop and just say that I try to add fresh approaches, books, themes, and activities every single semester. It's fun for me, and it means my teaching doesn't get stale.”

She also shared some great photos to give you an idea of what her classes look like in action. Check them out!
